Collect weapons, build rooms, generate power, get more Dwellers, protect and grow, repeat. You will not look at the night sky the same way ever again.įallout Shelter is a mobile resource manager game. In an infinite universe, there are infinite possibilities, but also infinite distance between each one. This is probably the clearest answer to the Fermi Paradox. It’s not something to rush into, engines roaring and guns blazing it’s a meditative thing instead, to look at infinity and pick just one direction to go… and coast along. We know what kind they are, how old they are, and in several hundred cases, the kind of planets around them… so much to know. It’s also peaceful, floating there in the dark, looking up, around, down at the seemingly uncountable number of stars - and realize they’ve not only been counted, but mapped and named. It’s big on a scale the mind just cannot begin to wrap around. It’s profoundly humbling to look at that vast gulf and then look beyond it to the galaxies beyond… Space is BIG. It’s brilliant when you can accelerate to the speed of light - and then realize that it’s still going to take you four real-time YEARS to get to the nearest object outside the Sol system. Space Engine takes reality and slaps you in the face with it. Every game I’ve played so far has sacrificed reality for playability and not just games, but movies, books, everything. The controls are a bit hard to get used to, and there’s a sense of alternating between sensory overload when you look at the universe out there, and terrifying tedium when you think of how far away it is.īut most of all, there’s a sense of awe. It’s not really a game, but a space simulator - one that covers almost EVERY known cosmic body so far.
